Sunday at the Beach

I'm trying to stay on track with my painting...quite a challenge. If I just didn't have to work and pay bills, taxes, etc...Oh well.

Anyway, I was back up at Lake Michigan recently and was agian inspired to do some small paintings. I love the Lake.

It was a breezy and somewhat cool day but the sun was out and it was absolutely beautiful.

This is a 5" x 7" oil on linen panel that I was inspired to create. This little boy was with his mom and dog, and was having the best time. It was fun just watching him have a great time.

Mel O Cream Chocolate Glazed

Well, I am trying to get back to my painting, my 'paintings a day', as well as my blogging. These seem to be challenging tasks for me right now, but here I am...this is a start, again.

This is a lucious little chocolate glazed donut that somehow seems more impressive and important set on the fine china (Richelieu, sp???). It is a simple little morsel that is elevated by its presentation (not unlike people ??). This is an oil on canvas, 4" X 6", if you are interested in it let me know.

I'm going to wrap it up now.

Lazy,Hazy Days of Summer

Well, I have been busy but not at the easel (unfortunately). Anyway, I have been neglecting my blog and decided that I will post images of art that I have created in the past. I would rather have new work to show but....?

This was a commission from a few years ago...it seemed appropriate to post a beach scene in the middle of July. I guess I am hoping that if I look at it long enough it will transport me to the beach too. The pastel painting is of four brothers.

St.John's Hospital Mural

Okay, well....I am still not back on track yet....haven't gotten any 'paintings a day' or 'aceo's' completed....just extremely busy. Anyway, I decided to post a photo of part of a mural I painted at one of the local hospitals....it is between the children's hospital and the main hospital. I will post photos of the rest of it another time. Enjoy.

Definitely not a 'painting a day'

Well, I thought I better post something so people won't think I fell off the face of the earth. I've been busy as usual with a variety of stuff and just haven't made my 'paintings a day' or any paintings a priority. Soooooo....I decided to post some of my other paintings for you to enjoy.

This is an oil portrait I painted last year of a little boy at the beach. I had to crop the photo as the painting is wider...it is actually a square painting. The photo doesn't do the painting justice, and the painting doesn't do the little boy justice - he is so incredibly cute, cute, cute. However, his mom was absolutely thrilled when his dad gave it to her for Christmas. What a great gift to give someone ...... and a terrific heirloom.

Painting a Day

Yes, this was done within a day...'a painting a day'. Even if I don't have time to finish a small painting a day I do try to do at least a bit of painting daily. Sometime it doesn't happen. This is a little ginger jar I love and use occassionally for paintings although I don't paint many still lifes. I'm not sure why as I do enjoy them when I do pursue them...well, I'll save that one for another post.

I had a professor in college that required us to keep a sketch book/journal that we were to draw, paint, doodle, write in daily. That was one of our requirements for the class. She emphasized how important it was to the development of our skills, ideas and discipline. It could really be a chore, and since that time I have not been very good about keeping a sketch diary, however, my work as a full time decorative artist has, I believe, helped my art overall in a similar way. No, it is not the same as the sketch journal but it has forced me to exercise my varied artistic skills and creativity on a regular basis - even some of the less interesting projects that I have tackled. This too, I will discuss further in another post... so, stay tuned and check back again.

I had to improvise on the flowers as the ones I have dried up from when I picked them last year...yes, they have been in that ginger jar for awhile. I'll have more again soon - spring flowers are blooming and trees are budding. Yea!
